In this session I built on the keynote presentation and expand into HOW to provide equitable opportunities for our students. We had an opportunity to delve into our own programs to think of ways of unpacking what educators already do so they could provide more equitable opportunities for students in their school. Areas discussed - Context, Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, The wider responsibilities, How do we get there?

DEI Workshops

A series of recent face-to-face or on-line workshops I have carried out in the field of diversity, equity, inclusion or anti-racism.

In 2020, the International Teachers of Colour Facebook Group was established, I saw the need for a continued conversation amongst all international teachers of colour.

Panel Discussions & Webinars

Picture
I was invited to join a Panel Discussion on Recruiting Outstanding International Educators. The discussion involved exploring changing trends and patterns in international recruitment – what are the key lessons learned and how can this inform future recruitment / retention and professional development strategies for diverse and multicultural school settings, how schools can promote diversity in their recruitment of leadership and faculty, by adopting innovative, equitable, and inclusive hiring practices and structures / recruiting for long-term retention – what do schools leaders need to consider during the hiring process, and what should ‘the right’ candidate look like?

I was invited to join a panel of Educators involved in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in their educational Institutes to discuss how we have helped implement aspects of this work into our curriculums and schools.

In 2020 the ACS Schools Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council was established, working together across our UK schools to inform, unite and progress our DEI efforts. In this webinar I talk about my journey as an international educator and the work we have been doing at our schools.

This is a series of conversations with an international teacher of colour. The idea is to reach out to international schools, international organisations and international recruitment agencies to talk about how they are making systemic changes with regards to racial equity in their institutions.

In this series I talk to international PE teacher Laura and Counselor Sadie about the work I have been doing with Physical education in conjunction with diversity, equity and inclusion in international schools and the journey forward.

Articles

The Times Educational Supplement has strongly encouraged educators to express their experiences, ideas and thoughts on a variety of educational issues. In 2020, I wrote this article on 'Why Equity, not inclusion, must be schools' goal'. Schools need to go further than just inclusion, people of colour must be an equal part of the system.

The last few years of my life have been a like a rollercoaster but I have been the one pushing that rollercoaster back up the tracks. Life is not an easy thing to navigate but it is at those low times when it is most important to rise up and fight again. In this article I write about my challenges as an educator of colour and how I have risen up to take on those challenges.
